TALES & LEGENDS OF NORTHAMPTONSHIRE
Northants is rich in stories and legends that date back to medieval times when storytellers would roam the counties regaling the villagers with tales of faeries, tricksters and courageous deeds.
STEVE DIMMER recreates those times with an invigorating, lively performance show that brings to life again the now almost lost art of true storytelling.
No books, no reading, no reciting, but a kinetic show that reinvigorates the many rich stories that are part of Northamptonshire’s folklore.
Some tales may be familiar – The Dun Cow originates from Dunchurch, The Tinker of Badby may also be known but part of the oral storytelling tradition is to ‘put new wine in old bottles’ which means even these comparatively famous stories will have new resonance. Steve has also extensively researched lesser-known legends such as The Brigstock Fox, The Witch of Benfield, The Daughter of the Earl of Corby, The Ringstead Round, The Kings Sutton Faery, The Bride of Boughton, The Nene & The Ouse and The Otter’s Skin, which was first recorded in Stanwick in 1345.
With many years performance experience behind him, Steve (a member of Equity and The Magic Circle) can promise an evening that spans history, legend, drama and even a little magic. The show can be tailored to suit specific times of the year, with supernatural tales given prominence around Halloween for instance, rebirth stories for Spring and Easter and festive folklore emphasised towards Christmas.
